Cobra Health Insurance – Get Real Facts
Health insurance is one of the most important things that you have to have for yourself and your family. However, it can be pretty difficult to keep your COBRA health insurance if you don’t have a job – NOT! Cobra, or Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, actually allows you to keep your health insurance temporarily even if you just lost your job. True enough, there are a lot of people who are losing their jobs as an effect of the ongoing global financial crisis. And having health coverage will definitely help you breathe easier.
Of course, COBRA health insurance is not always the perfect choice for everyone. As with any other decision, you need to make sure that you check out the ins and outs of the coverage. Weigh these out to make sure that you are not wasting money on something that will not benefit you in the long run. Also, the insurance has several requirements that employers need to comply to.
The best feature of COBRA health insurance is you can keep your health plan without making too much of a fuss when you lose your job. You will be able to get the same benefits as an employed person. This insurance is best for people who have families who need several medical services at a time. Any member of your family may enroll in the insurance coverage as long as they are covered within your company’s group plan. And they don’t need to ask for your permission or anything similar for this. Another good thing about Cobra is they allow coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. So this should not be a cause for issues.
The downside of having COBRA health insurance is it only lasts for about 18 months. After this period, subscribers would need to look for other options for insurance coverage. There are special instances where you can keep your coverage but it will require 150% of the premium. You also have to remember that your health’s condition will have a great effect on the cost of the premium for your coverage. If you are a person with good health, then you are likely to get cheaper medical insurance than those with already existing medical conditions. This is one thing that you should know with short-term medical insurance and other health insurance coverage as well. One more thing is your employer makes the decisions when it comes to your Cobra health plans. If your employer decides to drop the coverage, then you lose Cobra as well.
COBRA health insurance is coverage that is mandated by law. It is neither required nor anything similar. However, it is a good way to keep your family secure. But you have to remember that this is a short-term thing and dependent on the company’s decisions. If your company decides to move to another insurance company, then your only choice is to follow. Keep in mind what you and your family needs before you actually get Cobra insurance for your family.

How/Where can I get medical insurance if I cannot get it from my employer?
I recently resigned from my previous employer, losing my medical/dental insurance.
I am currently working somewhere w/o medical insurance at this time.
I really need to get some kind of insurace so I can get some prescriptions refilled.
I would also like to see the dr who prescribed these drugs.
I just wanted to know what my best option would be. I accidentally missed my COBRA policy eligibility period so I do not believe I can get that anymore either.
Just wanted to know what my best option would be at this time.
